We all have jitters when we have to express our views in front of a large audience..this is the fear of Public Speaking..True some are naturally good orators..but this is not the skill which cannot be developed ..Here are few tips to overcome the public speaking phobia..
1) Command on the Language - first and foremost learn the language..start practising the vocab of the language. Public speaking is indeed all about ornamented words..don't try to learn many words in one day and then vomit them when given a chance..Its about using them appropriately when required..so go slow..learn one word per day and start using the word in day to day life understanding all its connotations.
2) Command on The Topic - command on the topic is very important. Read and gain as many knowledge as you can. When it comes to presenting the topic state facts and use affirmative sentences. Facts make your speech more authentic which in turn gives you the required momentum and confidence.
3) Practise - So the good ol adage "Practise makes a man Perfect" holds true till date. Practise and Practise. Once you are at ease with recalling vital points spontaneity would also soon follow. Make your friend and family a mock audience and make them listen to your speech. If you can speak comfortably in front of your folks you would get away with "strange" glaring eyes too.
4) Be Neutral on the Stage - While on stage in the beginning look at the audience but avoid looking straight into their eyes. Address the whole gathering but avoid making "full eye contact" it can be intimidating at times. If at all you want to, you would always find some approving kind souls in the audience nodding to every single word you say. Those are the people who acts as your comforting cushion.
Having said that as you start speaking more and more the confidence builds up and the phobia expels..:)
